The Examiner, May 25, 1857....

May 2 - Watson Duchemin, for permitting his two cows to go at large, convicted and fined 1s. 6d. each, with 4s. 6d., costs. William Valentine, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5 s. or to be imprisoned 48 hours each. Richard Ryan, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5s. with costs, or be imprisoned 48 hours. Patrick and John Ready, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5s. each, or be imprisoned 48 hours each.

May 5 - Ellen Brown, for malicious trespass on the premises of Ellen Kilby-breaking windows; convicted and fined 10s. with 5s. 6d., costs, or be imprisoned 14 days. Ellen Brown, for assault and battery on Ellen Kilby; convicted and fined 20s. with 5s. 6d., costs or be imprisoned one month.

May 6 - Hugh Quinn, for retailing spirituous liquors in less quantity than one pint, and allowing the same to be drank (sic) on the premises; convicted and fined £5 with costs, or be imprisoned 1 month. Hugh Quinn, for selling spirituous liquors on the Lord's Day; convicted and fined £2 with costs, or be imprisoned one month.

May 7 - Margaret Pence, for using threatening language towards Patrick Evans, for giving information; convicted, ordered to find security in the sum of £40 to keep the peace, and be of good behaviour for 3 months or be imprisoned 1 month.

May 8 - Henry Ingles for threatening language towards Patrick Evans; decision deferred for the present.

May 9 - Benjamin Chappell, for permitting his cow to go at large; convicted, fined 1s. 6d., with 4s. 6d., costs. Michael Noonan, for permitting his cow and horse to go at large; convicted, fined 1s. 6d., with 4s. 6d., costs. James Hawkins drunk and incapable of taking care of himself; dismissed when sober.

May 13 - John Whelan, a cripple, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5 s. with costs, or be imprisoned 48 hours; committed.

May 14 - James Keenan, charged with assault on George Hix; parties settled out of court.

May 15 - Hugh Quinn, charged with being drunk and disorderly; not convicted. William Byers, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5s., or be imprisoned 48 hours. Ann Trainer, charged with setting fire to her house; admitted to bail to take her trials at the next supreme court.

May 18 - James Doyle, charged with assault and battery on J. R. Harrison; parties settled out of court.

May 20 - Mary Byers, drunk and disorderly on the street; convicted and fined 5s., or be imprisoned 48 hours. Hugh Quinn, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined, 40s., (second offence) or be imprisoned 96 hours. Ellen Brown, drunk and openly using obscene language; convicted and fined 10 s., or be imprisoned 14 days.

May 21 - Wm. Byers, junr., for retailing spirituous liquors in less quantities than one pint, and allowing it to be drank on his premises; convicted and fined £5 with costs, or be imprisoned one month.

May 23 - Thomas Williams, articled seaman of ship Majestic, for assaulting Hon. W. W. Lord, John Lea, and others with a sheathe knife; convicted and fined 40s., with costs, or be imprisoned one month, and ordered to find sureties in the sum of £40 to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for one month; committed. Andrew McDougald and Edward Pritchard, seamen of the ship Majestic, for interfering with the police in the discharge of their duties; convicted on confession and ordered to pay jail fees. Patrick Trainor, of Millcove, charged with assault on Matthew O'Neill; complainant not appearing, he was dismissed.

The Examiner, June 15, 1857:

May 25 - Richard Groggett and Gilbert McLean, drunk and incapable of taking care of themselves; dismissed when sober. William Leonard drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5s., or be imprisoned 48 hours.

May 26 -William Smardon, James Carmichael and Patrick McKenna charged with permitting their cows to be at large on the streets and squares; not proved. James McGear, for permitting his cow to go at large; convicted and fined 2s. 6d. with 5s. costs or be imprisoned 5 days.

May 27 -Ann Cahill for assault and battery on catherine McGuire; convicted and fined 5s., with 5s. costs or be imprisoned 8 days; committed. John Jenkins charged with permitting his horse to go at large on the streets; not proved. James Larter, charged with assault and battery on Melchisedec Hix; settled out of court.

May 28 - Cletus Campbell, charged with creating a disturbance in his own house; no prosecutor appearing, he was dismissed.

May 29 - John Duncan, for permitting two cows to go at large on the streets and squares; convicted on confession, ordered to pay 3s. fine.

June 1 - Thomas Bowdin, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5s.or be imprisoned 48 hours. Terence McAtee, charged with assault and battery upon Patrick Corrigan; settled out of court.

June 2 - Patrick Murphy, drunk and incapable of taking care of himself; dismissed when sober. William Knocker, for assault and battery on Alexander Nicholson; convicted and fined 20s. with costs, or be imprisoned for 14 days. William Knocker, for an assault and battery on Richard Stephens; convicted and fined 20s., with costs, or be imprisoned 14 days. Thomas Craig, for an assault and battery on Richard Stephens; convicted and fined 20s. with costs, or be imprisoned 14 days. Thomas Craig, charged with assaulting Alexander Nicholson; not proved.

June 3 - Alice Neal for assault and battery on Julia Kavanagh; convicted and fined 10s. with costs, or be imprisoned 14 days. Hannah Neal and William Neal, charged with assault and battery on John Kavanagh; not convicted.

June 4 - Richard Neal, for assault on three policemen in the discharge of their duty, ordered to find bail in £80 to take his trial at the Supreme Court.

June 5 - Margaret Pense, charged with being drunk and disorderly on the streets; not proven. Ellen Brown, drunk and disorderly; convicted (second offence) and fined 10s. or be imprisoned 96 hours; committed.

June 6 - John Neal, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5s. with costs, or be imprisoned for 48 hours. John Stewart, disorderly driving, convicted and fined 5s., or be imprisoned 48 hours.

June 8 - Michael Snake, for openly using obscene and lascivious language; convicted and fined 10s. with costs, or be imprisoned 14 days; committed. Jonathon Mentioner, charged with violent assault and battery on Margaret Fitzgerald; parties settled out of court; Mentioner to pay costs.

June 10 - David Smardon and Patrick Malone, drunk and disorderly; convicted and fined 5s. each, or be imprisoned 48 hours each.
