Interment records added by Allen Beagan Nov 27 1996 in memory of his grandparents; John Thomas Beagan and Catherine Power May 16,1922 Mrs. Thomas Beagen---- The visits of death is ever laden with grief and tears, but when the grim reaper reaches unexpectedly and cuts down the beloved mother, than his stroke brings bitter anguish indeed. To be beckoned away to the unseen land when one is calmly waiting the comming of the deatroyer, is sad enough, but when he enters the happy home like a thief in the night, and cruelly carries off the cherished mother of the family; then the anguish of those bereft is too keen for human consolation. Such is the sorrow fallen on the happy home of Mrs. Thomas Beagan of Mount Ryan. On the morning of March the 28th, Mrs. Beagan rose as usual about six o'clock and together with other members of the family went out to milk. After assisting with the milking she remained in the barn to do some chores. About ten minutes after one of the children, going out, was horrified to find her dead, just outside the stable door, heart failure being the cause. Mrs. Beagan was the daughter of the late Martin Power of Mermaid and was fifty years of age at the time of her death. She was educated at Mermaid and was a graduate of Prince of Wales College. For a number of years she taught school and was listed in the honor roll of teachers. She took a deep interest in education and in the districts where she taught her sercices were highly appreciated. This was evident in Johnston's River when their school became vacant last year, and notwithstanding that she had not taught school for twenty five years she was entreated by the whole district to take charge of the school and was their much esteemed teacher at the time of her death. In the activities of her parish church she was always a leader, and many are the good works done by her unceasing endeavors to --- ote the welfare of Mt. Ryan ---. In the world of music she was second to none, always taking her part with honor to herself whenever called upon. She was organist of Mt. Ryan Church, a posisition she always filled with distinction, and where now her services will be sadly missed. Mrs. Beagan was a model christian women, of a lovable disposition, well read in the topics of the day, a pleasing conversationalist combined wth thrift and industry, and always ready to assist a neighbor in time of need, a friend of all and enemy of none. To know her was to love and respect her, her gentlee smile and pleasant greeting will be sorely missed in the neighborhood, but it is in the home, where the vacant chair and the loved voice is forever silent, that the pang will be felt the worst. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss, a family of five, three sons and two daughters, namely Everet in the employ of the PEI railroad , Lawrence , Elmer and Evelyn and Mary at home, besides one brother, Mr. Joseph Power of Mermaid and one sister, Mrs. Michael McCarthy, Summerville, Mass., who will ever cherish her memory. The many floral tributes and spiritual bouquets placed on her bier bore testimony of the high esteem in which she was held in the community. Her funeral, which took place on March the thirtieth from her late residence Mt Ryan, was followed to Mount Ryan Church by a large concourse of sympathizing friends and neighbors, where a Requiem Mass was sung for repose of her soul by her beloved Pastor, Rev. William Monaghan, after which her remains were conveyed to Fort Augustus Cemetery and placed besides those of her husband Mr. Thomas Beagan, who had predeceased her three years ago, the last rites at the grave being performed by Rev. A.J. McDonald, P.P., and all that was mortal of a kind Christian lady was laid to rest. May her soul rest in peace.
