The Descendants of Job James Bevan and Rebecca Pepperell

First Generation

1. Job James BEVAN "Gunner" was born in 1792 in Bath, Yorkshire, England. He died on 6 Jan 1862 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was buried on 9 Jan 1862 in Elm Ave Cemetery, Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

At 24, Job "Gunner" Bevan sailed from Kingston upon Hull on the schooner Valiant about 22 March 1817, and arrived at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, on 25 June 1817. The trip of the Valiant was remembered after the event by Rev. Matthew Smith, and published in the Charlottetown Guardian on 24 January 1898. His Headstone at the Elm Street Cemetery (plot #66, location G20), since destroyed by vandals, was of an Artillery piece. After his Artillery days, he was a Carpenter. His obituary says that he was a Beadle and a collector at St. Paul's Church. The PEI 1861 census lists him as a Pensioner as he was then 71 years old.

Job married Rebecca PEPPERELL daughter of William PEPPERELL and Mary BROWN about 1822 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Rebecca was born in 1798 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died on 17 Dec 1868 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Job and Rebecca had the following children:

2 F i. Maria BEVAN was born on 5 Oct 1820 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She was christened on 5 Nov 1820 in St. Paul's Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She died on 14 Dec 1888 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. Maria married Charles W. HUGHES on 15 Jun 1842.

+ 3 M ii. William BEVAN was born on 26 Mar 1823. He died on 26 Feb 1880.

4 M iii. James Job BEVAN was born in 1828 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died in 1859. James married Sophia Elizabeth WISEMAN daughter of James and Susanna WISEMAN on 11 Nov 1858 in Trenton, Mercer, New Jersey.

5 F iv. Sarah Ann BEVAN was born on 3 Oct 1830 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Sarah married a McKINNON who was born in 1828.

6 M v. Job BEVAN was born on 18 Mar 1834 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Job married Abigail TRENAMAN. Abigail was born in 1836.

7 F vi. Rebecca BEVAN was born on 9 May 1837 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died about 1870. Rebecca married Charles RODD Jr. son of Charles RODD and Maria BARRETT on 26 May 1864. Charles was born on 29 Jan 1839. He died on 27 Oct 1905.

Charles Rodd Jr., (1839-1905) was later married to Georgina Weldon.

8 M vii. John BEVAN was born on 18 Apr 1841 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died on 17 Sep 1842.

9 M viii. Charles Frederick BEVAN was born on 17 Jan 1845 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died in 1926 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He was buried in Ross Bay Cemetery, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Charles married a GILL who was born in 1847.

Second Generation

3. William BEVAN (Job James) was born on 26 Mar 1823 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died on 26 Feb 1880 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was buried in Sherwood Cemetery, Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Listed in the Prince Edward Island 1861 Population Census as head of household living in Ward 1, Charlottetown, Queens County, Prince Edward Island, with his wife Hannah (21-45) and four children (Males - 1, 8 to 16; 1, under 8; Females - 2, 5 to 16), all born in PEI. The census goes on to record the family religion as Church of England, and William's occupation as a Tailor. From the book "Memories of Long Ago" written by Benjamin Bremner of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, William Bevan is listed as a member of the St. Paul's Church, PEI, choir in the 1860's and early 1870's.

William married Hannah VESSEY daughter of Robert VESSEY and Anne Elizabeth SLIGHTHOLM on 16 Jan 1846. Hannah was born on 30 Sep 1825 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died on 28 Jul 1904 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.

William and Hannah had the following children:

+ 10 M i. John William BEVAN was born on 16 Oct 1846. He died in Sep 1901.

+ 11 F ii. Sarah Ann BEVAN was born on 12 Aug 1849.

12 M iii. James BEVAN was born on 1 Jun 1851 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

13 F iv. Caroline BEVAN was born on 17 Mar 1853 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

14 M v. William Job BEVAN was born on 24 Oct 1857 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died on 13 Feb 1914.

The LDS Ancestral file entry for William reports that he may have been buried in Mount Wollaston, Wales. The 1901 Population Census for Prince Edward Island lists William J Bevan as age 44, Religion as Church of England, and his occupation as a Taylor, living in lot CA7 (Queens county).

William married Sara Anne CAMPBELL on 1 Feb 1881. Sara was born about 1857 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died on 26 Aug 1888.

Third Generation

10. John William BEVAN (William, Job James) was born on 16 Oct 1846 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died in Sep 1901.

The 1891 Population Census for Prince Edward Island lists John Bevan as age 45, a Methodist, and living in lot CTA4. Also listed in lot CTA4 is his daughter Lillian (listed as Lottie) Bevan, age 4 (a misprint, she was 14).The 1901 Population Census for Prince Edward Island lists John Bevan as age 54, a Methodist, occupation as a Tailor, and living in lot CA7 (Queens county). His brother William Job is also listed as a Tailor living in lot CA7.

John married (1) Mary Jane BURHOE daughter of James BURHOE and Christina ROSS on 27 Oct 1869 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Mary was born on 25 Dec 1849. She died before 1877.

They had the following children:

15 F i. Lillian G. BEVAN "Millie" was born on 11 Apr 1876. Lillian married Peter CAMERON.

John married (2) Margaret D. CROCKETT daughter of James CROCKETT and Alison MABON in 1875 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Margaret was born on 4 Oct 1841 in York, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She died on 2 Jan 1920 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She was buried in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Margaret and John made their home on Edwards Street, Charlottetown, PEI. Both died at the Edwards St. house and both are buried in People's Cemetery (Protestant Section) St. Peter's Road, Charlottetown, Lot 33, PEI Cemetery 12, Stone # 1679, Section K.

John and Margaret had the following children:

11. Sarah Ann BEVAN (William, Job James) was born on 12 Aug 1849 in Charlottetown,

Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Sarah married (1) George DRISCOLL son of Timothy and Mary DRISCOLL on 30 Sep 1869 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. George was born on 1 Sep 1849 on Rustico Rd, Milton, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died on 20 May 1895 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts.

While living on Prince Edward Island, George worked at Newsom's Furniture Factory as a Carpenter. Later, when living in Boston, he worked as a construction contractor.

George and Sarah had the following children:

+ 17 M i. Herbert William DRISCOLL was born on 22 Nov 1871.

18 M ii. George Albert DRISCOLL was born on 9 Jul 1875 in Milton, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died on 26 Oct 1876 in Milton, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Milton, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

19 M iii. Frederick James DRISCOLL was born on 27 Aug 1877 in Charlottetown, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

+ 20 M iv. George Byron DRISCOLL was born in Nov 1881. He died on 30 Mar 1916.

+ 21 F v. Gertrude H. DRISCOLL was born in Mar 1884.

22 M vi. Harold B. DRISCOLL was born in Jan 1887 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.

23 F vii. Ethel A. DRISCOLL was born in Feb 1889 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. Ethel married CARPENTER.

 

Sarah married (2) Henry MATIFES after 1895.

Fourth Generation

16. Harry John William BEVAN (John William, William, Job James).

17. Herbert William DRISCOLL (Sarah Ann BEVAN, William, Job James) was born on 22 Nov 1871 in Milton, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Herbert married Helen E. HANSON "Nellie". Helen was born in Feb 1872 in Massachusetts. She died in 1901 in Somerville, Middlesex, Massachusetts.

They had the following children:

20. George Byron DRISCOLL (Sarah Ann BEVAN, William, Job James) was born in Nov 1881 in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He died on 30 Mar 1916 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. He was buried in Milton Cemetery, Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. George married Ella Rae RICHARDS daughter of Samuel Enoch RICHARDS and Amelia Ann YOUNG. Ella was born on 19 Jun 1885 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. She died on 5 Jun 1942 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. She was buried on 7 Jun 1942 in Milton Cemetery, Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.

26 F i. Edna Lillian DRISCOLL was born on 12 Jun 1912. She died on 14 Dec 1925 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. She was buried on 16 Dec 1925 in Milton Cemetery, Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.

+ 27 F ii. Gertrude Edna DRISCOLL was born on 20 May 1915. She died on 14 Jun 1956.

21. Gertrude H. DRISCOLL (Sarah Ann BEVAN, William, Job James) was born in Mar 1884 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. Gertrude married Robert COFFIN on 20 Jun 1906 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.

Class of '06 at Harvard. After marrying Gertrude, Robert moved to Cleveland, Ohio to become a banker.

Fifth Generation

27. Gertrude Edna DRISCOLL (George Byron DRISCOLL, Sarah Ann BEVAN, William, Job James) was born on 20 May 1915 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. She died on 14 Jun 1956 in Quincy, Norfolk, Massachusetts. She was buried on 18 Jun 1956 in Milton Cemetery, Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. Gertrude married William Stanley MILLER son of Morris S. MILLER and Anna Alferetta GOOD about 1934 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. William was born on 12 Jun 1913 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He died on 31 Oct 1964 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He was buried in Milton Cemetery, lot 681, Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts.

Shortly after William's father Morris died William was adopted by Arthur W. and Anne L. MEEKEN. At that time his name was changed to William Miller MEEKEN, keeping his surname as his new middle name.
