The Descendants of John Buchanan and Isabella MacIntosh
Generation No. 1
1. JOHN1 BUCHANAN was born Abt. 1834 in Loch Lomond, Scotland, and died Bef. January 5, 1866. He married ISABELLA MACINTOSH August 26, 1852 in PEI, daughter of RODERICK MACINTOSH and EUPHEMIA MACPHERSON. She was born May 1833 in PEI, and died January 4, 1906 in PEI.
Notes for JOHN BUCHANAN:
From Helen Hilton, a descendant of John's son Anthony Buchanan, John came from Loch Lomond, Scotland (unknown date of arrival or age). He was killed at the age of 29 by a horse on his farm (date unknown) and was reportedly buried in a grave behind his farm.
We know that John Buchanan died sometime after about 1863, the birth of his last child, and before Jan. 5, 1866, when Isabella stated that she was a widow on the marriage license for her marriage to Donald MacPhee. His date of birth can be approximated therefore, as sometime circa 1834-1836.

Notes for ISABELLA MACINTOSH:
No birth record or death record has been found for Isabella to prove her parentage. However, oral family history (source: Isabelle MacPhee) maintains that Donald MacPhee and his brother married two sisters. I have assumed, until any evidence to the contrary is found, that Isabella MacIntosh is the sister of Donald's brother John MacPhee's wife, Flora MacIntosh and that her parents are therefore also Roderick MacIntosh and Euphemia MacPherson.
On 1891 Census, Isabella states that both parents were born in Scotland (as were Roderick MacIntosh and Euphemia MacPherson, according to Death Record of Flora MacIntosh).
Isabella was a widow with 5 children in 1866 when she married Donald MacPhee, who was about 12 years her junior. At the time of the 1881 Census, she is living in Lot 31 with Donald MacPhee and all of her Buchanan and MacPhee children.

Marriage Notes for JOHN BUCHANAN and ISABELLA MACINTOSH:
John Buchanan, bachelor and Isabella McIntosh, spinster, were married Aug. 26. 1852 by Banns. Witnesses were D. Mathewson(sp.?) and D. Martin. The minister was Malcolm Ross, North River.

Notes for EUPHEMIA BUCHANAN:
Tombstone for Euphemia and brother Malcolm shows both born in 1856. However 1881 Census shows Euphemia age 23, 2 years younger than Malcolm, age 25. Obituary for Euphemia says that she was in her 91st year when she died in 1947.
