Notes for ELI JOSEPH CAMPBELL:
Mr Campbell was born in Montague, PEI on Nov. 1, 1861. After attending public school there and Prince of Wales College, Charlottetown, he was engaged in teaching school for some years before going to B.C. in 1884(?). Here he resumed the profession, first at Cowichan, then at Sardis. After several years of teaching he become occupied in farming and purchased the George Carter farm on Lickman Rd. Disposing of his farm in 1923, he moved to Chilliwack where he had since resided. The deceased took an active interest in all community welfare work. A kind and indulgent father, a loyal friend, a man of large and understanding sympathy, he will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friend and acquaintances.
Eli J. Campbell appears as owner of Lot 38, Block 43, D.L. 541 in Ward 1 on the 1886 and 1887 Vancouver Voters' Lists.
Eli Joseph Campbell was born 1 November 1861 on Prince Edward Island. He was a school teacher in 1889 at Cowichan. Later he moved to Chilliwack, where he taught school and farmed. There he married Emma May Toop in 1889. - "Vancouver Voters, 1886" (book)

Emma May Toop was born 4 August 1873 on board ship in the Atlantic (birth registered in New Jersey), daughter of Samson Toop (1845-1927) and Emma Bidgood (1846-1918), natives of Horrobridge, Devonshire, England and pioneers of the Chilliwack Valley (arrived 1876). Emma May died 23 February 1931 at Chilliwack and is buried in Carman Cemetery at Sardis, BC. - "Vancouver Voters, 1886" (book)

Funeral services for Irvin Campell, 54 who died at his home 93 Sandell Rd., Surrey were held there Dec. 14. The deceased, a native of Chilliwack was a member for many year of the Chilliwack brand of the Canadian Legion. Before living in Surrey he resided at Steveston and was an active member of the Army and Navy club there. Surviving are his wife, Olive, one son, Allen of Coal Harbour, two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Mcquarrie, Steveston, and Mrs. Maxine Quadling, Surrey; four brothers, George and Carl of Chilliwack; Ernest of Sumas Prairie, and Rothewell, Victoria; three sister, Mrs. Myra Nelson, Sardis, Mrs. Alma Wells, Cultus Lake, and Mrs. Pearl Dickie, Chilliwack. There were two grandchildren. Pallbearers were six nephews: Gordon Dickie, Bob Nelson, Lloyd Wells, Bob Campbell, Don West and Lyle Nelson.

Margaret Campbell of9280 Mary St., Chiliwack, passed away Feb. 17, 1988, at Chilliwack General Hospital at age 78. She was born July 7, 1909, at Glasgow, Scotland, and had lived in the Chilliwack area for 75 years. She was a housewife and had been a member of the Ladies' Guild of the Presbyterian Church for 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting knitting, quilting and gardening. Privage graveside service was held Feb. 20 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery with Rev. Kerry McIntyre officiating.
