While it is not necessary to designate the way in which you wish your contribution to be used, as a supporter you may find it useful to know the various needs of the foundation. Prior to making a donation you may wish to discuss these needs with a Foundation representative. Regardless of the route(s) a prospective donor chooses, a tax creditable receipt is issued by the foundation for all amounts above the basic membership fee given in any year.
Prospective donors may choose among:
The Endowment Fund - Established in 1993, earnings from this fund will one day contribute to the financial security of the foundation. Current practice of the Board is to re-invest interest earned along with the principle. Donors interested in contributing substantial amounts to the long term stability of this memorial to Sir Andrew Macphail may specify that all or part of their donation be added to the endowment fund.
The Management and Programming Fund - While the ultimate goal is to have the homestead generate revenue sufficient to operate the site, supplementary funds for management and programming are often required to meet the objectives of the Foundation. Success to date has not gone unnoticed, but it has been due to long hours of service, many of them volunteer. In order to sustain the effort by staff and volunteers and reward the visitor with a quality experience you may wish to direct your contribution toward "site management" or "site programming."
Site Development Fund - The vast majority of dollars raised have gone into refurbishing the grounds, house and outbuildings. more is required to secure the large barn, develop the library and support the agricultural demonstration project to name a few. You may wish to direct your donation to "site development."
General Revenue - All contributions, whether their use is specified by you or note are welcome. We greatfully credit them to "general revenue" to further the goals of the Sir Andrew Macphail Foundation. Cheques must be made payable to "Sir Andrew Macphail Foundation". Donors of $500 or more in any one year are treated to a Patron's Dinner at the homestead.
You can also apply for membership in the Sir Andrew Macphail Foundation of Orwell. the annual membership fee is $15.00, and our annual meeting is in November. The foundation is 100% volunteer and welcomes involvement. There is much to do. There are new possibilities for enrichment at every visit, year-round.
