Descendants of Donald/Daniel Henry and Mary McMullen

First Generation
1. Donald/Daniel HENRY.
Donald's grandson Edward Henry, Lot 21, Granville Mills, wrote the following account of his ancestors on January 24, 1887: My grandfather Henry came to this island from Kentyre, Scotland, and was among the first that settled in Malpeque, his farm being on the east side of King Street run or brook. His name was Donald and his wife's name was Mary McMullen. He had in family three sons and six daughters. (Reprinted in the Guardian in 1906)
In 1775, Donald owned Princetown Lot 109. Donald/Daniel married Mary McMULLEN. "John McMullan" was a Princetown Head of Household in 1798.)

Second Generation
2. Jane HENRY (Donald/Daniel 1). Born ca 1772. On 11 Oct 1793, Jane "Hendry" first married James ALLEN, in Princetown PEI.
"Jane Allen" was listed as a Head of Household in Princetown in 1798. On July 9, 1798, James was issued a commission as Ferrykeeper at Grand Rustico by the Private Secretary's Office.
They had the following children:
3. John HENRY Sr. (Donald/Daniel 1). Born ca 1774. John died ca 1845-47. In 1798, John Sr. was a Princetown Head of Household, age 16-60. John married Mary WARREN. Her parents may have been Benjamin and Elizabeth Warren - the names of Mary's second son and daughter. The first son and daughter were named for John's parents.

iv. Elizabeth (Betsy). Born in 1807. Elizabeth (Betsy) died on 25 Mar 1898; she was 91. Living with nephew Lewis (JOHN JR./JOHN SR./DONALD) in 1881 census ("aunt"). May have lived in John McKay household in 1891.

4. Alexander HENRY (Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1780. Alexander died in Malpeque PE on 5 Sep 1860; he was 80. On 13 Oct 1803 when Alexander was 23, he married Isabella MCQUILLIAM, daughter of ? MCQUILLIAM & Isabel RUSSELL. Born in 1779. Isabella died on 28 Apr 1867; she was 88. Buried in Malpeque PE.
Past & Present of PEI: Isabella, of Elgin, Scotland, came to PEI on the ship Polly in 1803 from the Isle of Skye. Isabella's son Edward wrote that his grandfather McQuilliam settled in Malpeque, close by Neil Taylor's pond and that his (first?) wife's name was Isabel Russell. Notes re: Lots 14 & 16 (The Island Register): Alexander Brown, a Loyalist b. ca 1760, who received a grant of land in Lot 16, married Margaret MacWilliams b. 1760, a Scotch girl from New London. A half-sister of Margaret (Isabella) married Alex Henry of Malpeque. A sister, Christiana, married Alexander Anderson in New London. Another sister married Joseph Coles in New London.
They had the following children:

5. James ALLEN (Jane HENRY 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1796. James died on 23 May 1880; he was 84. James married Elizabeth WILLIAMS. Born in 1803. Elizabeth died on 10 May 1874; she was 71.

6. Flora CLARKE (Jane HENRY 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 10 Jun 1803. Flora died on 16 Dec 1889; she was 86. On 2 Sep 1835 when Flora was 32, she married John HENRY Jr (12) , son of John HENRY Sr. (3) (ca 1774-ca 1845-47) & Mary WARREN. Born in 1812. John died on 16 Oct 1876; he was 64.
They had the following children:
i. Elizabeth. Born in Feb 1838. Elizabeth died in 1914; she was 75. Living with her brother Lewis in 1881 census.

7. John CLARKE (Jane HENRY 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 19 Mar 1811. John died in 1903; he was 91. John married Mary HENRY (16) , daughter of Alexander HENRY (4) (1780-5 Sep 1860) & Isabella MCQUILLIAM (1779-28 Apr 1867). Born in 1811. Mary died in 1873; she was 62.
They had the following children:
i. Mary S. Born in 1843. Mary S died in 1913; she was 70.
ii. Lewis. Born in 1846.
8. Donald/Daniel HENRY (John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1798. Donald/Daniel died on 18 Dec 1865; he was 67. On 7 Jan 1828 when Donald/Daniel was 30, he married Catherine WARREN in Malpeque PE. Both "of Malpeque." License fee paid to Dugald Stewart Esq. J.P. Born in 1797. Catherine died on 12 Mar 1865; she was 68. Both were buried in Birch Hill (Lot 14) PE. (Benjamin Warren Sr. was a "Head of Household" in Princetown in 1798. According to the Presbyterian, he was, in 1812, the first blacksmith at Malpeque.) The Donald Henrys lived in Princetown in 1861 (census) and in Victoria West (Lot 15) in 1863 (Lake Map).

On 22 Jun 1883 when William Archibald was 44, he married Margaret WEATHERBEE. Born in 1843 in Pownal PE. Margaret died in Birch Hill PE (Lot 49), on 24 Aug 1914; she was 71. 9. Mary HENRY (John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1801 in Malpeque PE. Mary died on 7 Jul 1875; she was 74. Buried in York Cemetery PE. On 4 Feb 1830 when Mary was 29, she married William SNELGROVE of Cove Head (Rev. John Kier). Born in 1808 in England. William died in Vancouver BC, on 4 Aug 1891; he was 83. Occupation: Grocer. Resided in Charlottetown PE.

i. Annie E. Born in 1832 in Malpeque PE. Annie E died of laryngeal stenosis in Waltham MA, on 11 Apr 1898; she was 66. Buried in Brighton MA. Annie E married Robert SCOTT.
ii. George. Born on 28 Feb 1837 in Charlottetown PEI. Baptized 13 May 1839, Charlottetown Methodist Church.
iii. Grace. Born on 5 Jul 1839 in Charlottetown PE. Grace died in PE Canada, in 1913; she was 73.
10. Benjamin HENRY (John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1803. Benjamin died in Harmony PE, on 16 Jan 1883; he was 80. On 22 Aug 1826 when Benjamin (of Malpeque) was 23, he married Catherine MACKENZIE (of New London). Born in 1804. Catherine died in 1901; she was 97.

Sheen, Alex McFadyen; Bondsman Wm. Chappel, Lot 21.) Born on 27 Jun 1846. She married (2) Benjamin CHAMPION on 26 April 1876. Maysie died on 26 Feb 1904; she was 57. Buried in Alberton PE.

x. Elizabeth. Born on 7 Mar 1851. Elizabeth died in 1914; she was 62. On 7 Dec 1867 when Elizabeth was 16, she married Fred B ALCHORN. (Edwin Darby JP; Witnesses: Benjamin & Alexander Henry.) Born on 24 Jun 1844. Fred B died in 1911; he was 66.
11. Annabella HENRY (John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1810 in Malpeque PE. Annabella died at 114 Chestnut St, Boston MA on 13 Nov 1895; she was 85. Religion: Weslyan Methodist. On 28 Jul 1837 when Annabella was 27, she married James Leslie KELLY in PE Canada. In the 1881 PEI census, Annabella was a widow living in Charlottetown. Daughters Priscilla and Grace were living with her. She was still in Charlottetown in 1891.
They had the following children:

12. John HENRY Jr (John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1812. John died on 16 Oct 1876; he was 64. On 2 Sep 1835 when John was 23, he married Flora CLARKE (6) , daughter of CLARKE & Jane HENRY (2) (ca 1772-). Born on 10 Jun 1803. Flora died on 16 Dec 1889; she was 86.
They had the following children:
i. Elizabeth. Born in Feb 1838. Elizabeth died in 1914; she was 75. Living with her brother Lewis in 1881 census.

13. George HENRY (John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1819 in Malpeque PE. George died at the Marine Hospital in Southport PE, on 19 May 1892; he was 73. Buried on 22 May 1892 in Clifton United Church, Bunbury PE. No stone. On 15 Jul 1847 (license date) when George was 28, he married Elizabeth CROCKETT, in Charlottetown/Little York PE. (Rev. David Fitzgerald, curate. Witnesses William Reilly, Charles Young. Recorded 8 Jan 1848.) Born on 23 Oct 1819 in Townhead Scotland. (1901 census: 9 Oct 1817 in NB). Elizabeth died after 1901.

ii. George. Born on 22 Oct 1849 in Little York PE. George died bef 1911. Occupation: Brickmaker in 1881, pork factory employee in Charlottetown in 1901. Religion: Christian Church (1901). On 22 May 1900 when George (widower) was 50, he married Mary McLEOD, in Charlottetown PE. Born on 1 Mar 1860. She was a "widowed housekeeper" in 1911.
iii. Unknown male. Born ca 1850. (1861 Census: 4 males 5-16 in household.)

v. Jane Olive. Born in 1856. Jane Olive died of consumption in Southport PE, on 8 Aug 1879; she was 23.
38 vi. Sarah (1858-<1899)
14. "Capt." William HENRY (John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1823 in Malpeque PE. William died in Victoria West PE, on 18 Jun 1885; he was 62. Buried in Victoria West PE. Occupation: Shipbuilder. Religion: Presbyterian. (Summerside Journal June 1885 - Death: At Higgins Road on 18 June, William Henry in the 62nd year of his age.) On 19 May 1846 when William (of Rustico) was 23, he married Margaret CUMMINGS (of New Glasgow). Born on 8 Jun 1821. Margaret died in Victoria West PE, after 31 Mar 1901. Buried in Victoria West PE.

i. Isaac. Born ca 1847. Isaac died in infancy. (Possibly named for Isaac Murray, Cavendish minister.)
ii. Louisa. Born ca 1848. Louisa died in infancy.

v. Benjamin. Born ca 1851. He was never married.

They had the following children:
i. Mary S. Born in 1843. Mary S died in 1913; she was 70.
ii. Lewis. Born in 1846.
17. Edward HENRY (Alexander 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 10 Mar 1814. Edward died of inflammation of the lungs in Granville Mills PE, on 11 Apr 1892; he was 78. Buried in Springfield Park PE. Edward apprenticed as a blacksmith in Charlottetown. Worked in Cavendish (blacksmith for Alexander and James Simpson, BayView Mills). Farmed in Malpeque. Lived in Summerside. Moved to Wilmot Valley ca. 1858; settled on Simmons property. Moved to Granville in 1860 and started the first grist mill in the area. On 28 Feb 1843 when Edward was 28, he married Grace HACKER, in St. Eleanor's PE. (Rev. A.V.G. Wiggins.) Born on 19 May 1819. Grace died on 7 Jul 1911; she was 92. Buried in Springfield Park PE.
They had the following children:
i. Bell. Born in 1843. Bell died on 10 Nov 1874; she was 31.

iv. Isabella Grace. Born on 9 Apr 1847. Isabella Grace died on 10 Nov 1874; she was 27.
v. Mary Isabella Leach. Born on 29 Jan 1849. Mary Isabella Leach died on 10 Sep 1883; she was 34. On 19 Dec 1876 when Mary Isabella Leach was 27, she married J E DAVIS.
vi. Charles Washington. Born on 12 Jun 1851. Charles Washington died of scarlet fever on 15 Aug 1860; he was 9.
vii. Edward MacArthur. Born on 2 Feb 1853. Edward MacArthur died on 19 Jun 1881; he was 28.
viii. Flora Ann. Born on 17 Dec 1854. Flora Ann died in Oct 1913; she was 58. On 22 Feb 1888 when Flora Ann was 33, she married David Alfred SHARP of Essex NB.
ix. Emma Elizabeth. Born on 20 Jun 1856. Emma Elizabeth died on 7 Aug 1902; she was 46. On 18 Nov 1880 when Emma Elizabeth was 24, she married George William TAYLOR of Londonderry NS.
18. Dougald HENRY (Alexander 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 19 Jun 1817 in Malpeque PE. Dougald died in Stanley Bridge PE, in 1905; he was 87.
"Reminiscences of an Octogenarian," The Patriot, 15 June 1904, page 2: I left the land of my birth, Malpeque, 64 years ago (1840), the fourteenth of June, and came to Cavendish, where at that time shipbuilding was being carried on by Alexander and James Simpson. They used to launch from their yard two vessels a summer. My brother was their blacksmith. I went to learn the trade with him and was there five years. From Cavendish I returned to the land of my birth where I finished out my trade.....
On 11 Oct 1855 when Dougald was 38, he first married Isabella PAYNTER, daughter of William PAYNTER & Mary Ann HACKER, in New London. (Rev. Mr. Meek, Wit: John Anderson & Catherine Henry.) Born in 1836. Isabella died on 18 Feb 1876; she was 40.
They had the following children:
i. Russell "Alexander". Born on 24 Dec 1856 in New London PE. Russell "Alexander" was baptized on 16 Mar 1857. Russell "Alexander" died in 1944; he was 87. He lived on the old homestead in Malpeque. On 21 Apr 1896 when Russell "Alexander" was 39, he married Jane L CLARK. Born on 25 Nov 1848. Jane L died in Baltic PE, on 9 Apr 1909; she was 60. (Charlottetown PE Guardian: Mrs. Alex Henry died in Baltic, Lot 18, on April 9, 1901, aged 62 of inflammation of the lungs.)
ii. William "Albert". Born on 25 Dec 1857 in Mill River PE. William "Albert" was baptized on 14 Feb 1858. William "Albert" died in 1914; he was 56.
iii. Emmeline "Emma". Born in 1858. Emigrated to the US with her brother Charles.
iv. Charles Russell. Born in 1862. Charles Russell died in 1946; he was 84. Occupation: Blacksmith in Lot 22 in 1881 (Household of John Hilman). Moved to the US.
v. Mary E. Born in 1864. Mary E died in 1925; she was 61. Mary E married Robert WENTZEL.
vi. John A. Born in 1867. John A died in 1908; he was 41. Owned a meat shop in Summerside. John A married Lydia A CROZIER. Lydia A died in 1938.
vii. Richard. Born in 1869. Richard died in 1959; he was 90. Took part in the Yukon Gold Rush. Lived in BC in later years.
viii. Lucy Hannah Garrett. Born on 23 Dec 1870 in Stanley Bridge PE. Lucy Hannah Garrett was baptized on 5 Mar 1871. Lucy Hannah Garrett died on 26 Jul 1871. Buried in Stanley Bridge PE.
49 ix. George Robinson Garrett (1872-1944)
x. Edward Hacker. Born on 31 Jul 1874 in Stanley Bridge PE. Edward Hacker was baptized on 21 Feb 1876. Traveled a lot. Worked as a painter and paper hanger. Lived in Kensington hotel when on the island.
On 18 Oct 1881 when Dougald was 64, he second married Jane MACDONALD of Wheatley River. (Wit: Catherine & Malcolm McDonald.) Born in 1847. Jane died on 29 Dec 1889; she was 42.
They had the following children:
i. Nelson Robert. Born on 17 Aug 1883. Nelson Robert died in 1967; he was 83. Occupation: Farmer, salesman. Lived with half-brother Russell "Alexander" on the farm in Malpeque PE. They later sold the farm and Nelson moved to Kensington PE.
ii. Catherine "Katie". Born on 22 Mar 1885.
Fourth Generation
19. Elizabeth "Eliza" ALLEN (James 3, Jane HENRY 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1843. Elizabeth "Eliza" married Peter MORRISON. Lost at sea.
They had the following children:

20. Priscilla ALLEN (James 3, Jane HENRY 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born in 1845. Priscilla married John D CLARKE. They moved to Alma PE 1903.

ii. Mary Elizabeth. Mary Elizabeth died in 1960. She was never married.
21. Lewis HENRY (Flora CLARKE 3, Jane HENRY 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 12 Dec 1840. Lewis died on 26 Jun 1913; he was 72. On 2 Mar 1875 when Lewis was 34, he married Sarah BERNARD, (daughter of James BERNARD & Catherine CHAMPION). Born in 1845. Sarah died in 1927; she was 82.
They had the following children:
i. Flora Jane. Born on 7 Aug 1877. Baptized in Jan 1877. Flora Jane died in 1971; she was 93. Flora Jane married Kier Owen RAMSAY. Born in 1874. Kier Owen died in 1939; he was 65. They lived in Baltic.
ii. Helena Ethel. Born on 24 Mar 1880. Baptized on 4 Aug 1878. Helena Ethel died on 18 Jan 1967; she was 86.
iii. Robert Crozier. Born on 14 Mar 1881. Baptized on 3 Jul 1881. Robert Crozier died on 14 Jan 1899; he was 17.
iv. Archibald Gould. Born on 30 Oct 1884. Baptized on 14 Sep 1885. Archibald Gould died in Kensington PE, on 28 Sep 1962; he was 77. Archibald Gould first married Ella CHAMPION. Born in 1874. Ella died in Alberton PE, in 1939; she was 65. Archibald Gould second married Elva L BERNARD. Born in 1892. Elva L died in 1995; she was 103.
v. Mary M. Born on 12 Apr 1890. Mary M died on 24 Apr 1914; she was 24. Mary M married Charles GOULD.
22. Mary Ann HENRY (Flora CLARKE 3, Jane HENRY 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 22 Oct 1843. Mary Ann died on 27 Apr 1906; she was 62. On 4 Aug 1868 when Mary Ann was 24, she married Robert CROZIER. Born on 2 Mar 1841. Robert died on 2 Jun 1914; he was 73.

Lived in Summerside in 1875, 1881 and 1891. On 13 Jul 1857 (license date) when Dougald was 29, he married Margaret CREED, in Both "of Charlottetown." (Charles Lloyd; Wit: Robert Duncan, Emma Creed, Margaret's sister). Born on 22 May 1815 in Sturgeon PE. Margaret died in Lower Montague PE, on 17 Dec 1909; she was 94. Occupation: Laundress in 1891. (Father, Job Prince Creed, d. 1868. Margaret and Dugald petitioned for administration #185 on 17 March 1887. Mother b. Scotland.)

24. John HENRY (Donald/Daniel 3, John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 11 Nov 1831. John died before 1911. Occupation: Shipwright in Summerside (Lovell's 1871 Directory). "Of Lot 15" in 1866 land transfer. Lived in Alberton in 1875 at the time of Quit Claim to father Donald's property in Lot 15. Lived with his brother Benjamin's son Dougald in 1891 and 1901 ("uncle"). The 1911 Administration of his brother William A.'s estate notes that John had a family. He may have had this child (living in Dougald Henry household in 1891):

25. Benjamin HENRY (Donald/Daniel 3, John 2, Donald/Daniel 1). Born on 16 Aug 1834 in Malpeque PE. Benjamin died of kidney disease in West Devon PE (at the home of his son Dougald) on 26 May 1907; he was 72. On 2 May 1855 when Benjamin was 20, he married Catherine MACLEAN, daughter of John Alexander MACLEAN, in Brae PE. (Witnesses: John McLean, Robert Craswell.) Born on 6 Nov 1821 in Brae PE. Catherine died in Brae PE, on 2 Oct 1901; she was 79 (Death notice in the Guardian gave age as 81.) In 1863, Benjamin was living on the 100 acre farm which he leased in the area now called Marquis Road (A History of Brae by Eva MacNevin).

Hazel Ramsay's Kith n' Kin: John Howard Enman (John R.'s son) had a beautiful orchard that included Astrakhan apples.

Hawkins and their family is living with Kenneth and Margaret. In 1920, Margaret has died and Kenneth is living at 139 Yetman Ave., Richmond NY with the James Hawkins family.
