The Mc/MacPhail's of Argyle Shore, PEI.
This tree covers the McPHAIL, later MacPHAIL, family who came from the north part of the Isle of Mull, and settled on the Argyle Shore of PEI in 1810. They took up properties in Lot 30 along the Northumberland Strait where those same farms are still predominately in the hands of descendants and relatives. Over time, linkages have been made with most of the other families in that vicinity.
Considered as subsets of this tree are substantial CAMPBELL and FERGUSON lines descended from McPHAIL daughters. See the separate trees for "CAMPBELLS of DeSable, Lot 29, PEI" and "FERGUSONS of Hampton, Lot 29, PEI".
Another two McPHAIL, later MacPHAIL, families came from the same place in Mull in 1810, following two married sisters who had migrated with their own in-laws in the 1806 & 1809 time periods. These people settled at the Clyde River (then known as the Dog River) in Lot 31. They are in a separate tree: "MacPHAILS of Clyde River, PEI" which subdivides into MacPHAIL, LIVINGSTON(E) and MURRAY. Be sure to check those trees for connections.
Please Note: The spelling of names beginning with Mc or Mac used in this tree is based on the spelling used by the individual at the end of his or her life. None of the family who died before 1910 seem to have used the MacPHAIL spelling. All used McPHAIL. My own great-grandmother McPHAIL, a widow, insisted to her dying day in 1924, that her name was McPHAIL and that she was not changing the spelling to that used by her children!

11. Malcolm McPHAIL (John2, Alexander ?1). Born in 1768/1769 in Killiemor, Isle Of Mull, Argyll, Scot. Malcolm was baptized in Killiemor, Kilninian & Kilmore Parish, Mull, on 9 Apr 1769. He died in Argyle Shore, Lot 30, Queen's County, PEI, abt 1821. Buried in Argyle Shore Cemetery. Occupation: Liv Arle, Mull 1779; Farmer Arg. Sh, PEI. Religion: Church Of Scotland. User ID: MP114.

* Came to PEI in 1810, likely wintering in Charlotte Town and moving onto the lot on the Argyle Shore in the spring of 1811. Took up a 100 ac property running inland from the shore. Family seems to have had some resources for they were able to buy that first lot and then in 1817 to buy 300 ac. more immediately to the west. The Argyle Shore Cemetery began on that property as a family burial ground.
* In a memo written by H.A.C. McPHAIL (MP114191) in 1896 or 1897 he has this entry in its concluding lines: " My great grandfather, Malcolm McPhail, whose wife was a McLean of Duart, Mull, Argyleshire ..... with his whole family and a number of his wife's family and other friends, left Scotland in 1810 in their own ship with a goodly supply of furniture, tools, seeds, cattle, hens, geese etc; and settled on a large tract of land at Argyleshore, PE Island. My grandfather's name was Neil. My father's name Peter, who married Margaret Ann Lane, daughter of John Lane of DeSable, PE Island, in 1853. I was born in Cambridge near Boston, July 29, 1854. Moved to Lake City, Minnesota in 1866, Moved to Santa Barbara, California, 1876. To Los Angeles in 1905." While H.A.C. has his relationships correct, his place of birth is proven to be Crapaud, PEI. His details on the emmigration of the family from Mull to PEI have not been independently confirmed, except that the year was 1810 and that Malcolm and at least 5 to 7 unmarried children plus one niece showed up in the records of PEI.

After John's death [date unknown], Helen married Archibald McPHAIL and came to the Dog River [Clyde River, Lot 31] in 1810. Helen died in Clyde River, Lot 31, Queens Co., PEI, abt 1816; she was 45. Buried in PEI. Religion: Ch. Of Scot. Archibald McPHAIL is in the line of Duncan McPHAIL.
