In Memoriam

Giles H. Jenkins

Millview: The death occurred at Prince Edward Island Hospital of Giles H. Jenkins at eight o'clock on Friday morning, August 30th.

Mr. Jenkins was in the hospital slightly over five weeks in which time he underwent two operations for cancer, the second occurring a week and a day previous to his death. He was a great sufferer towards the last but bore all with patience and christian fortitude.

Mr. Jenkins was a man of stirling worth. He was a member of the United Church and in his church was a humble but prominent worker. For many years he was Superintendent of the Sunday School in Millview, and for twenty-two consecutive years before his death he filled the important position of recording-secretary for Pownal Circuit. He was also interested and prominent in matters pertaining to school and community, and for several years was secretary to the local school board. His passing is keenly felt in church, school, and community.

His funeral was held at his late residence in Millview on August 31st, and relatives and friends from far and near gathered to pay a parting tribute. Rev. Henry Pierce, a former pastor and friend of the deceased preached and Rev. H. E. Campbell conducted the service. Interment was made at Pownal cemetery.

The pallbearers were, Wesley Acorn of Sydney, and Messrs. Willaim Jenkins, Willaim Mutch, Harold McPhail, and W.W. Mutch.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Mutch, Earnscliffe, and Mrs. Mary Mutch, Cherry Valley; also a foster sister, Mrs. F. McPhail, Randolph, Mass; one brother, Charles of Boston; four sons, Vernon, Everett and George of Millview, and William of Dunstaffnage.
