VY2AC on Prince Edward Island - Model 33 Printer

Though I have the original printer mostly working in the KSR-33, due to the number of rusted parts on it, I have purchased another printer which is clean, and has no rust. Hopefully this one will give me less grief over time. The original printer will serve now as a source of replacement parts. These are photos of the newly received one.

Photo of a Model 33 teletype printer unit showing platen, paper feed (both center), carriage, typing unit (left front), motor (back, left half), answerback assembly (back, right), etc. from top.

Photo of a Model 33 teletype printer unit lower view - front, showing carriage assembly, carriage drive belt (top), codebars (bottom inside), etc. The item taped to the front of the printer is the "hereis" tab - it will be reinstalled on the lower right hand bottom of the printer where it belongs. It was removed for shipping, as it juts out from the front edge if left in place, and would have been damaged. A "hereis" key on the keyboard activates this tab to start the answer back mechanism.
Photo of a Model 33 teletype printer showing from the right hand side, the distributor (right third) and ends of the code bars (roughly center). This one is missing the clear plastic distributor cover, but this will be replaced with the one off the other printer.
Photo of a Model 33 teletype printer, back view, showing motor (center), main shaft (behind motor), answer back assembly (left). On the right, selector cams and levers, fuse, capacitor, and motor starting relay..
Photo of a Model 33 teletype printer right hand side, showing selector assembly (left half) and dashpot assembly (under platen and typing unit). The dashpot decelerates or buffers the carriage as it returns to normal position to minimize wear and tear on the unit.

Result of initial print test with the printer installed - it was using a very dried out ribbon.
