St. Margarets of Scotland Church located in St. Margarets, PEI is releasing the book, "Honouring Our Ancestors Then and Now" containing stories about families from the surrounding area, including many early pioneer families. To launch the book there will be a mass on Sunday July 25, 2010 at St. Margarets Pioneer cemetery at 11:30 am. The book will be dedicated immediately following the mass and will be available for purchase for $20.00. Lunch and entertainment will take place at the Parish hall and Vestry. The Caledonian Club of PEI will dedicate its 2010 PEI Highland Games to the Canadian Navy as it celebrates the centennial of its creation. 2010 PEI Higland Games, August 6 - 8, 2010
Surviving Navy Veterans of World War 11 will be honored at the Games with a presentation of the Caledonian Club pin to recognize their dedication and service to the country in a time of great danger.
This year, the Caledonian Club of PEI marks the 146th celebration of its annual Scottish Games, and Scottish Festival, beginning August 6, 7 & 8, at the Lord Selkirk Provincial Park in Eldon (Points East Coastal Drive, follow the "starfish" symbol to Eldon).
The weekend's events begin on Friday at 10 a.m. with Sarah Cummings' step-dancing competitions and will be followed with Junior Heavy Sports Demonstration & Competition for Lads and Lassies from 4- 5:30 p.m.
Rodney MacLean, clansman will introduce Lieutenant Commander Peter J. Gallant, Commanding Officer for HMCS QUEEN CHARLOTTE who will address the gathering on the occasion of the centennial of the Canadian Navy.
The evening continues with a kick-off ceilidh with local musicians, including the Belfast Pipe and Drum Band; Gillebreth Red Island Shale, with Dave and Mike MacGillivray singing traditional and Celtic music; highland dancing, along with the champion step dancer selected on the day during the competition.
Saturday, at 1 p.m., the Lassies rolling pin toss will take place with a trophy presented to the top female competitor. At 2 p.m., the senior men's highland games competitions will feature ancient Scottish sporting events such as throwing the stone, sheaf toss, farmers' walk, tossing the caber, shot putt, lazy stick and bale throw. Individuals will compete for the Jim MacNeill Memorial Trophy which will be presented to the top competitor following the conclusion of the 2010 Games.
Also at 2 p.m., an afternoon Scottish concert will feature Island talent with piping, singing, and highland dancing, step-dancing and fiddle tunes. Performers will include the Belfast Pipe and Drum Band, John Bernard Family Band; also performing will be Sheila Bernard, who will sing a number of popular Scottish songs, along with fiddler and step dancer Vanessa Bernard.
On Sunday, the Barbara Brown-Yorke highland dancing competitions begins at 10 a.m., on the main stage with Fling. The registration begins at 9:30 a.m., for primary, beginner, and novice.
In the event of inclement weather competitions will be held at the Belfast Recreation Centre which is located on Garfield Road across from Cooper's Red and White store.
A full schedule of events is planned for three days, with details posted on the club website, www.caledonianclubofpei.ca.
Admission: Adults $7.00, Under 12 Free; Two and three day passes will be available.

The 2010 Keefe Family Reunion will be held in Kinkora, Prince Edward Island on the weekend of July 30 to Aug 1, 2010. McCarville / McCarvill / McCarvell Reunion - Aug. 6-8, 2010
The 2010 International McCarville / McCarvill / McCarvell / McCarvel / McKervill Family Reunion will be held in Kinkora, Prince Edward Island on the weekend of August 6-8, 2010.
The McCarville Family has now been meeting annually for more than fifty (50) years and this is only the second time this great international event has been hosted by the P.E.I. McCarvill / McCarville family.
Our 2005 International McCarville / McCarvill / McCarvell / McCarvel / McKervill Reunion drew approximately 500 attendees from eight Canadian provinces and sixteen States in the USA.

9:00 a.m. Tours: Sites on interest including churches and cemeteries.

The descendants of John Donald Murphy and Annie Jane Adams are holding their first family reunion on August 13, 14 and 15th in PEI. We are planning a family barbecue, fishing trip, church service at St. Stephens in Irishtown and a tour of our old family sites and cemeteries. Our summer historical series for July and August, 2010 will be held each Wed. at 10:00 a.m. at the Keir Memorial Museum at Malpeque on Rte. 20.
Presenters are as follows:
July 7 -“Overheard on the Island” by David Weale. In his talk, he will share some of the stories associated with his sayings that appear everyday in the Guardian and how the sayings relate to certain aspects of Island culture.
July 14 -“Those Island Presbyterians and the Love of Education” by Jack Whytock. In his lecture, he will explore the way Island Presbyterians of the 19th century made significant contributions both regionally in the Maritimes and also in Persia.
July 21 –“ Good Times in Malpeque-Lucy Palmer at Fanning School 1887-1890” by Michael Bliss.

Aug. 4 -“An Era of Prosperity and Self Sufficiency - The Shipbuilding Industry of P.E.I.” by Marvin Moore.
Aug. 11 -“A Meditation on Memory: The Yankee Gale and the August Gale in Popular Culture” by Dr. Ed Mac Donald. The two most deadly storms in the Island’s recorded history, the Yankee Gale and the August Gale, occurred only 22 years apart in 1851 and 1873. Both took over a hundred lives and left the Island’s north shore strewn with shipwrecks. The lecture will talk about these two extreme weather events and try to explain why one passed into folklore while the other fell into virtual oblivion.
Aug. 18 - “Rum Running: Exciting Times in the Maritimes” by Dutch Thompson Drawing from his collection of 900 hours of tapes, Dutch will share his stories about rum running days on P.E.I.
