Prince Edward Island Cemetery GPS Coordinates

There has been a mojor change in our GPS coordinate project. The PEIGS in conjunction with the Prince Edward Island Department of Forestry has developed a listing of cemetery coordinates which is now accessable on the PEIGS page. To avoid duplication of efforts, the major focus of our project will now shift towards gathering the coordinates of P.E.I. Historical location corrdinates. This will include the coordinates for Archival locations, Libraries, Family Homesteads, Historical Sites, and other places of interest to researchers.

I will be plotting those I am near, and I will have an extra GPS unit I can loan users that I know, so that they can mark down coordinates as they visit the Island's historical locations. Of course, coordinates taken by people with their own GPS units also will be appreciated. In order to keep a standard format, I ask that all users contributing coordinates do so in decimal degrees. The coordinates will be taken at the location's entrance or gate.

As GPS in automobiles, handheld GPS units, Laptop, and PDI based GPS units become more common, these two projects will be of great assistance to those trying to locate P.E.I.'s cemeteries and historical locations. These figures may be imported into GPS mapping programs such as Microsoft Streets and Trips ™, and used to produce maps and routes with written driving instructions from your location to find the cemetery.
