The Descendants of John McDonald

Generation No. 1

1. JOHN1 MCDONALD was born in Scotland, to, some say possibly West Point before moving to Brae, Lot 9. He married MARIE MCDONALD.

Notes for JOHN MCDONALD:

"John McDonald Sr., who was born in Scotland, lived elsewhere in Prince Edward Island (some claim West Point) before he settled in Lot 9. He was accompanied to Brae by his wife, also sons and daughters: John, James, Archibald, Hannah and others - all believed to have been born on Prince Edward Island."

Information from the book published in 1979 "Past and Present - A History of Brae."

Children of JOHN MCDONALD and MARIE MCDONALD are:

2. i. JAMES2 MCDONALD, b. Abt. 1795; d. September 02, 1849, Brae, Lot 9, Prince Edward Island.

3. ii. JOHN MCDONALD, JR., d. Bef. February 06, 1837.

4. iii. ARCHIBALD MCDONALD.

5. iv. HANNAH MCDONALD, d. Bet. 1850 - October 06 1854, Brae, Lot 9, Prince Edward Island.

6. v. ELIZABETH MCDONALD.

7. vi. MARY MCDONALD (uncertain)

vii. ISABELLA MCDONALD (uncertain)

Generation No. 2

2. JAMES2 MCDONALD (JOHN1) was born Abt. 1795, and died September 02, 1849 in Brae, Lot 9, Prince Edward Island. He married ANN MCKINNON, from Grand River, Lot 14, PEI, Canada.

We are pursuing possibility Ann McKinnon may be daughter of Roderick McKinnon and Catherine Gillis of Grand River, Lot 14.

Notes for JAMES MCDONALD:

Past & Present a History of Brae book: James McDonald purchased his land in Brae, Lot 9, on February 7, 1840, for 30 pounds. This area is in the Brae Harbour area and borders on Egmont Bay. The sales document bears the signature of 3 commissioners: Solomon DesBrisay, John Lewellen, and Peter Stewart MacNutt. It was witnessed by ? DesBrisay and David Stewart. It is possible that Archibald McDonald purchased the other half of Lot 9's church, glebe, and school lands although no written record has been found. James also leased 83 acres in Brae.

Deed of 65 freehold acres received from The Commisioner of Glebe Lands to James McDonald dated 2/7/1840 recorded 8/15/1849 V60 pg 184. This land remained vested in James children until their conveyance to James McNaught in September 1869. McNaught sold to Robert Oulton in 1872.

83 acres leasehold sold by executors of James estate, Neil McKinnon and John MacAller, at auction in 1855 to highest bidder, Augustine McKinnon, witnessed by C(harles) S Hunt and Charles Flynn. The assignment was formally registered 1877. Augustine was probably one-in-the-same as the Augustine witnessing the last will and testament of James McDonald.

The leasehold was transferred to Robert Oulton by an Indenture dated December 29, 1876 and recorded January 1877 from Felix McKinnon ("by divers mesne assignment"; this is the only explanation for Felix transferring instead of Augustine).

James McDonalds Last Will is posted on the Island Register
