Inducted to the PEI Sports Hall of Fame.

Lorne Robert Unsworth won the provincial cycling cham�pionship in the half mile event at Summerside July 1, 1895.

He was provincial champion in four events at Charlottetown August 2nd that same year. The Sherbrooke, Quebec native was only six seconds off the Canadian record in winning the one mile New Brunswick and P.E.I. Championship in two minutes 38 seconds at Summerside. The late Mr. Unsworth was cited for his cycling abilities and accomplishments in the January 1896 issue of the Canadian Wheelman magazine and in September 1897 Unsworth won the one quarter mile in a brilliant finish over one of Canada's top amateur cyclists, N.A. Cassiart, Montreal. Living most of his life in P.E.I. from the early 1880's to the time of his death in July 1917, the late Mr. Unsworth was regarded as one of the most sportsmanlike contestants that ever entered a race and one of the most honorable sportsman in the country. Accepting for Mr. Unsworth were his two daughters Mrs. Keith MacLeod and Mrs. Ruth Kennedy.
