The Last Will and Testament of George Douglas (1799-1849, Head of Hillsborough River)

In the Name of God, Amen. This is the last Will and Testament of me George Douglas of the Head of Hillsborough River, in Prince Edward Island, Farmer, as follows: In the first place I give, devise and bequeath unto all my sons in equal proportions all my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever situate and being, except as hereinafter excepted. Also I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharine Sarah, the sum of Sixty Pounds to be paid unto her in equal proportions by her Brothers. Also to my dearly beloved Wife, her Dower from all my real and personal Estate. And I do also constitute and appoint my beloved Wife, executrix, and her Brother Benjamin Coffin of Savage Harbour, executor to this my last Will and Testament. Also it is my will that each of my said sons shall be and they and their Heirs and Assigns forever are hereby expressly by me restricted and prohibited from selling, leasing or exchanging all or any part of their Land out of the Family of Douglas, and in case they do then I declare such land liable to be divided between my other representatives in Law, of the Name of Douglas as in case of Intestacy in this Island. In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of January in the Year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and Forty Nine.-
