WILL OF GILES (NICHOLAS) HAWKINS OF WHITE SANDS

1800-1875

Know all men by these Presents. I Giles Hawkins of White Sands, Lot sixty-four 64. Prince Edward Island but of perfect mind and memory of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the Hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I commend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executor nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

First I give and bequeath to Harriet my dearly beloved wife should she outlive me my farm with the Land thereon being fifty acres more or less with the dwelling house and out Buildings thereon with the cattle on my said farm by her to be possessed and freely occupied during her life and for and after her decease I then give and bequeath my said farm with all the land constituting a belonging to my said farm with dwelling house out buildings thereon with all the live stock horses cows sheep with live stock of every description being thereon at her my said wife decease, to my son John and his Heirs by them to be freely held and enjoyed forever.

I likewise constitute and ordain Mr. Arch MacDonald of Murray Harbour my sole Executor of this my last will and Testament, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Giles Hawkins as his last will and Testament, in the presence of us, who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names.

This will was proved on the 17th May 1875 on the oath of Thomas M. Beck, a subscribing witness before Comr. Kiely ? & certified and registered on the 25th May 1875.

NOTE: Giles Nicholas Hawkins was the son of Giles Hawkins and Susanna Chessell. he married Harriet Norcum LeLacheur. He died 5 may 1875. Other children, not named in the will, were Susanna Maria married George E. Jenkins, Charles Augustus, Jane Windsor married William Beck, Elisha, Mary Margaret married Thomas Marfleet Beck, Elizabeth, and Louisa Chessell married William Simpson.
