WILL OF JAMES MCEWEN

Dated 6 Nov. 1861 (Recorded in the Registry of Probate, Charlottetown, 9 Dec. 1861, 6:164)

In the name of God Amen. The sixth day of November 1861. I James McEwen, of St. Peters in the County of Kings Prince Edward Island Farmer, being sick and weak in body, but of perfect Mind and Memory, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament; that is to say, as touching my worldly estate, I give, devise and dispose of the same in Manner and from (sic) following:

In the first place I give and bequeath to Mary my dearly beloved wife her dower out of my Estate being one third part thereof. - - -

Also I give to my son Arthur who has been already provided for the sum of five shillings.

Also I give to my son Kimble all and singular my lands Messuages and tenements consisting of one hundred and eight acres on which I now reside, also all that part of the West field adjoining the Lake, that I hold jointly in lots with my Brother William, together with all my Stock household goods and Moveables not otherwise disposed of.

Also I give to my son Edward all that two hundred and thirty seven acres of woodland behind the Mill, which I have (agreed ?) to sell to my Brother Robert, also the Horse called Poney, one Cow, one heifer three sheep, one set of old Harness, and one set of Cart Harness.

Also I will give and bequeath out of my estate to my son (Robert?) once he comes of age he is to get the sum of twenty eight Pounds.

Also I give to my daughters, Eliza, Jane, Matilda, Maria, Amelia, Sarah and (Emma ?), the sum of Three Pounds each and one Cow each, when they come of age, and they are to be kept on the farm until they get married.

Also I likewise constitute, make and ordain my Wife and my Son Kimble my only and sole Executrix and Executor of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the day and year above written.
