The 1928 P.E.I. Telephone Directory

The Eastern Telephone and Telegraph Company became owner of the "Telephone Company of Prince Edward Island" on January 30, 1922. It became known as "The Prince Edward Island Telephone System" at that time. The year after this directory was issued, it became "The Island Telephone Company Ltd.", the result of an Act to incorporate "The Island Telephone Company Ltd." enacted Apr. 29, 1929. By Dec. 31st, 1929 the "The Island Telephone Company Ltd." had 4072 telephones in service and 56 rural companies were in operation serving an additional 1394 customers. The telephone numbers given in this directory were used prior to the introduction of dial telephone service on P.E.I. - none work today, but I have left them in for interest sake.

Since the time of this directory, Island Tel has forged its way into the forefront of telephone technology, and is providing service second to none. It is interesting to compare what the Island telephone system is now, to the way it was seventy six years ago. We can be thankful for all the contributions of the company's employees and management made in the intervening years towards this end.
