The Will of Dougald McCallum (- aft. 1857, Lot 33)


Land records shows a Dougald McCallum 1821 buying 100 acres Lot 33, renting 100+ from James Hodges.

In the name of God Amen. The 29th day of December in the year of our Lord 1857 I, Dougald McCallum of (Kentyre) Cantyre Queens County Prince Edward Island farmer, being sick and weak in Body, but of sound and perfect memory (praise be given to God for the same) and knowing the uncertainty of this life on earth and being serious to settle things in order to make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following. That is to say, First and foremost I commend my Love to Almighty God my creator assuredly believing and trusting in the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ for the pardon of all my sins. And at touching such worldly estate as the Lord in mercy hath lent me, my life and meaning is, the same shall be employed and bestowed as hereafter by this my will is expressed. And first I do render renounce freesticite(?) and make void all wills by me formerly made and declare once ahpaind(?) this my last will and testament. First I give and bequeath to Neil my oldest and well beloved son Forty acres the south side of the farm I now live upon with the saw mill the lines running East and West parallel with Alexander and Dougald's lines. And should it be so that my son Neil do not return to inherit it, then it is my will that my son Donald shall have the same to inherit, I do not give my son Neil power to sell the said forty acres. I also give and bequeath to my beloved grandson Alexander and his mother Margaret forty acres, south of my son Neil and north of Dougald. I also give and bequeath to my beloved son Dougald one hundred acres south of his nephew Alexander and joining Mr. Rodd with a horse, a cow, and four sheep. I also give and bequeath to my beloved son Alexander a cow and four sheep. I also give and bequest to Ann my beloved daughter a cow and four sheep. I also give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Flora a young heffer. I also give and bequeath to Donald my beloved son the north side of the farm I now live on containing about ninety acres fronting on the road leading to Winsloe road with the dwelling house and barns and all implements. Carts, ploughs, harrows, and all the remaining stock after his Brother and Sisters receive their several portions. And I ratify this my last will and testament in the day and the year before mentioned by setting my hands and seal in the presence of James McCallum Dougald McCallum Donald McCallum Mb the word grand being underlined

This will was proved on the 18th Feb 1868 in the (?) of farmer McCallum of subscribing witness Charles Gorman Judge of Probate
