The Will of John Furness (1819-1892, Vernon River Bridge)

In the name of God Amen I John Furness of Vernon River Lot Number Fifty, Queens County in the Province of Prince Edward Island Farmer, being sick and frail in body but of sound disposing mind memory and understanding, do hereby publish and declare this as and for my last Will and Testament.

1st. I give and devise to my beloved Wife Catherine Furness all that Plot of Ground situate lying and being on Lot Fifty commencing at stake fixed in the Eastern line of land in possesion of James MacDonald and on the North side of the road commonly known as Thomas’ Road thence northerly from said Road embracing by two parallel lines a frontage or breadth of (69) sixty nine yards, the same being the North West angle or part of my Farm, and containing by estimation five acres of land a little more or less. I also give and bequeath to my said Wife Catherine the sum of eight hundred dollars the same being in lieu and in full discharge of her Dower and otherwise, and to be paid out of the residue of my Real Estate by my son Thomas Furness, at any time demanded or, at one year after my decease, if she decides to go elsewhere.

2nd. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth A. McColl the sum of twenty five dollars over and above $75 lately received.

3rd. I give and bequeath to my dutiful daughter Martha M. Johnston the sum of One hundred dollars.

4th. I give and bequeath to my dutiful daughter Amelia Munn the sum of One hundred dollars.

5th. I give and bequeath to my dutiful daughter Emma Matheson the sum of One hundred dollars.

6th. I give and bequeath to my grandson John Furness Huntley the sum of Fifty dollars.

7th. I give and bequeath to my grandson Louis Davis Huntley the sum of Fifty dollars.

The last above named sums to be paid out and from monies deposited in the Savings bank and to be paid by my Executors hereinafter named at any time they may see proper.

8th. I give, devise and bequeath all the rest and residue of my Real and Personal Estate, Goods Chattels and Effects to my dutiful son Thomas Furness his Heirs and assigns forever.

And Lastly I nominate and appoint the Honorable George Forbes and Duncan Matheson Executors and Trustees of this my last Will and Testament. Dated 23rd February 1892.

In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal and publish and declare this as and for my last Will and Testament.

by the said Testator in our presence whom
by his request have subscribed our names
as witnesses thereto in his presence and in the
presence of each other.

This Will was proved on the 21st of April
1892 on the oath of the Honorable George
Forbes, one of the subscribing witnesses
thereto and Probate was granted the same
day to the Executors therein named as
certified by Richard Reddin, Judge of
Probate.
