Administration Bond, No. 16, on the Estate of Michael Barrett, late of Lot 19, farmer, deceased.

Petition of Joanna Barrett, his widow, for Administration.

[ "Joanna" or "Johanna" are used in the documents. Johanna was the daughter of James May, Springfield, PEI. She married Michael Barrett, of Barrett's Cross, Kensington, in 1833. They had two sons; John, born 1835, and Thomas, born 1836. Michael died in December, 1836, and she married Peter Connick in 1838. Both little boys were living with their mother in the Census of 1841. There is mention of Thomas in 1876 as best man at a Barrett relative's wedding....but otherwise they have disappeared.]

Administration granted as therein prayed 20 March 1837- inventory in 3 months; Acct in 6 months from 20 March 1837.

The Petition of Joanna Barrett of Township Number Nineteen, widow of Michael Barrett, late of the said Township, Farmer, deceased.

Humbly sheweth that your Petitioner's husband the said Michael Barrett died intestate in the month of December last, leaving your petitioner, his widow and two infant children him surviving -

That he left some personal property, his interest in a leasehold on said township worth on the whole about the sum of £ 40.

That your Petitioner is desirous to administer according to law the Estate of her said husband in order to discharge his debts as far as his funds will extend.

Your Petitioner therefore humbly prays that administration be granted to your Petitioner on giving the usual security and is in duty bound she will ever pray .

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS THAT WE Johanna Barrett of Lot Nineteen (19), Widow, and James Quinn and John Breen, both of Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, Yeomen, are held and firmly bound unto ROBERT HODGSON, Surrogate and Judge of the Probate of Wills for the Island aforesaid, in the full and just sum of One Hundred Pounds of lawful money of the said Island, to be paid to the said ROBERT HODGSON, or his Successor in Office: to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our and each of our Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, severally and firmly by these Presents.

Sealed with our seals and dated the Twentieth day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty-seven and in the Seventh year of His Majesty's Reign.

THE CONDITION OF THIS OBLIGATION IS SUCH, THAT IF THE ABOVE BOUNDEN Johanna Barrett, widow and Administratice of all and singular the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of Michael Barrett, late of Lot Number 19, aforesaid, Farmer, Deceased: Do make, or cause to be made, a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods, Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased, which have or shall come to the hands possession , or knowledge of the said Johanna Barrett or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for her and the same so made to exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, into the Registry of the Court of Probate at or before Twentieth day of June next ensuing, and the same Goods, Chattels, and Credits, and all other Goods, Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased, at the time of his death which at any time shall come to the hands of the said Johanna Barrett or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for her do well and truly administer according to law.

And further do make or cause to be made a just and true account of her said Administration at or before the Twentieth day of September in the year of Our Lord, One thousand Eight Hundred and thirty seven.

And all the rest and residue of the said Goods, Chattels, and Credits, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration account, the same being first examined and allowed by the Judge or Judges for the time being of the said Court, shall deliver and pay unto such person of persons respectively, as the said Judge or Judges by his or their Decree or Sentence, (pursuant to the true intent and meaning of the Act of Parliament of the Twenty-second and Twenty-third years of the Reign of Charles the Second, intituled "An Act for the better settling Intestate Estates," and the Act of the General Assembly of the Island intituled "An Act relating to Wills, Legacies, and Executors, and for the settlement and distribution of the Estates of Intestates,") shall limit and appoint.

And if it shall heareafter appear, that any last Will and Testament was made by the Deceased, and the Executors or Executors therein named, do exhibit the same into the said Court, making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly, if the said Johanna Barrett within bounden, being thereunto requested, do render and deliver the said Letters of Administration (approbation of such Testament and being first had and made) in the said Court, then this obligation to be void, and of non-effect or else to remain in full force and virtue.
