The 1922 P.E.I. Telephone Directory

Transcribed by Dave Hunter - dhunter [at] islandregister [dot] com, Gord Pierce, gpierce [at] grics [dot] qc [dot] ca, and Dan MacDonald - brikwall [at] brikwall [dot] com, from a copy provided by Donna Collings.

On January 30, 1922, six months before this Directory, the Eastern Telephone and Telegraph Company became owner of the Telephone Company of Prince Edward Island. It became known as "The Prince Edward Island Telephone System". Not until 1929 did it become "The Island Telephone Company Ltd. See the 1935 Island Telephone Company Directory!

The telephone numbers given in this directory were used prior to the introduction of dial telephone service on P.E.I. - none work today, but I have left them in for interest sake.

Since the time of this directory, Island Tel has forged its way into the forefront of telephone technology, and is providing service second to none. It is interesting to compare what the Island telephone system is now, to the way it was sixty six years ago. We can be thankful for all the contributions of the company's employees and management made in the intervening years towards this end.
