He is believed to be a survivor of a shipwreck in 1719 at Naufrage and along with another survivor is believed to be one of the first permanent settlers on this Island. The 1728 census states he settled here in 1719. He was the father of Captain Pierre Douville (1745-1794) who was born in this area and survived the 1758 deportation to France. He joined the French Navy and lived in Rhode Island during the American Revolution serving as French Military Intelligence Officer who provided General George Washington with British ship and troop movements. For this he was decorated after the war. Capt. Douville was killed at sea on board his ship in an armed action.

First Catholic Church erected by the British
This large granite monument is situated on a hill on Route 2 near the former Saint Louis de Nord-Est Church and cemetery, which later became the first British Roman Catholic Parish on the Island. The accompanying cemetery is across the highway near the Hillsborough River enclosed by a grove of white birch trees. The monument was originally established at the cemetery down the road in Glenroy and later moved to the current location.

This unusual cairn with two boots on the top is situated in front of the schoolhouse. It commemorates the life of famous Canadian singer, song writer and patriot Stompin' Tom Connors who was raised as a foster child in the area. He contributed much to the preservation of the one-room school which he attended.

He, in a surgery on a kitchen table in St. Margaret's, was the physician who sewed the feet back on seven-year-old A. J. McCormack after they were accidentally cut off with a hay mower. It was through his efforts that sulpha drugs came to Prince Edward Island.

Half-Brother of John McCormack who represented South Boston Massachusetts in the United States Congress and later became Speaker of the House of Representatives, a post he held at the assassination of President John F. Rena Maude McLean
This large granite memorial commemorates the life of Nursing Sister Rena Maude McLean who died during World War I. It is situated in the Union Protestant Cemetery.
Additional plaques may be found in St. James United Church in Souris and the X-ray laboratory at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. In addition, her name is also recorded on the Naval Memorial in Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, Nova Scotia and on the Five Sisters window in York Minster Cathedral, in York England.
The story of the tragedy of her death may be found in the Island Magazine (Fall/Winter 1988) in the article Cows and Convalescents: Government House as Health and Education Centre, 1917-1924

Ian has represented Canada in six Olympic Games. In 1987 he became the first Canadian to be ranked #1 in the World by the International Equestrian Federation. Ian acquired Big Ben in 1983 and together they went on to win more than $1.5 million in their 11 years together. Big Ben was retired in 1994 and has since died

Ching left Red Point for Boston and worked as a motor-man on the Boston Elevated Railway. In 1912 he got his first experience with labour-management problems when he settled a serious strike. He rose through the ranks to the point where he was appointed by President Roosevelt to the National Defence Mediation Board and served President's Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson until his death in 1967. After Anna's death, her ashes were interred here. Ching is interred in Connecticut beside his second wife

St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery
St. John's Anglican Church in the old Village of St. Eleanor's is the oldest Anglican Church building in Prince Edward Island and is the second oldest parish. The first rector was appointed in 1823 and the church constructed in 1826. It was destroyed by fire in 1835 and rebuilt in 1838. St. Mary's Church in Summerside originated in 1851, with the church constructed in 1861. The building was destroyed in a major fire in 1906 and replaced by the current brick structure in 1908.

He took an idea provided by a close member of his family, of using nylon twine in the heads of lobster traps, and tested it for several years. Prior to this cotton was used, but it did not stand up to the salt water. The experiment showed that the nylon was not damaged by the sea water and drew attention throughout Atlantic Canada. Funding was later provided to the Fisherman's Union of Tignish to develop and promote this product which is used by fisherman throughout the world today

She was the first woman in Canada and the British Commonwealth to receive a University degree, (Mount Allison, B.Sc. in 1875). A National Historic Sites Monument is erected at Mount Allison University recognizing this event
