The Island Register - Letters from/to P.E.I. - Index

Recently, it was suggested to me that philatelists (stamp collectors and postal historians) around the world had a number of early P.E.I. folded, stamped letters in their collections. These contain a wealth of information, and in many cases haven't been seen on this side of the Atlantic for a century or more. Mike Salmon, of Lancashire, U.K. has offered to help us gather the text of some of these wonderful letters, and to put them here, available for P.E.I. researchers. He has placed notices in several philatelic magazines to let collectors around the world know about this project, and submissions from collectors have begun.

If you have letters to share from your collection, or from your family, either mail me a photocopy, or transcribe them into your Word Processor, and attach the resulting file to an email to Dave Hunter - [email protected], so that it may be shared with others. Please mention all pertinant detail such as postmarks, type of stamp, etc. if possible. Each and every letter, no matter what the content, can provide interesting clues to understanding P.E.I. history.

This listing will include letters both to, and from P.E.I. It is my sincere hope that we will be able to find copies of letters written by P.E.I. settlers to their families back home in the U.K., in addition to those written to them.
